The Memorial of the Queenship of the Blessed Virgin Mary invites the Church to contemplate the mystery of Mary’s participation in the glory and mission of her Son, Jesus Christ. The readings reveal that God’s true dwelling place is filled with his glory, yet this glory is not separated from humility and faithful service. In Ezekiel 43:1–7ab, the prophet receives a vision of the divine presence returning to the Temple. The Lord declares that this is the place of his throne and dwelling among his people. For Catholics, this vision finds its fulfillment in Christ, the true Temple of God (John 2:19–21), and in a special way in the Blessed Virgin Mary, who became the living Ark of the New Covenant by carrying the incarnate Word within her. The Responsorial Psalm, Psalm 85:9–14, proclaims the harmony of God’s mercy, faithfulness, justice, and peace, pointing toward the salvation accomplished in Christ. Mary’s queenship is therefore not a worldly authority but the fruit of her complete openness to God’s saving plan.

The Gospel from Matthew 23:1–12 presents Jesus’ teaching on humility and authentic greatness. He warns against seeking honour without conversion of heart and teaches that the greatest in God’s Kingdom is the one who serves. Mary perfectly embodies this teaching. Though honoured as Queen because of her unique relationship with Christ the King, she remains the humble handmaid of the Lord (Luke 1:38). Her Magnificat (Luke 1:46–55) reveals that God lifts up the lowly and accomplishes great things through those who surrender themselves to his will. The Church honours Mary not as a rival to Christ’s kingship, but as the first and most faithful disciple who directs all hearts toward her Son.

The Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches that Mary’s Assumption into heavenly glory and her queenship are inseparably connected with her participation in the mystery of Christ (CCC 966). Because of her unique cooperation with the work of redemption, she shares in the glory of her risen Son. Her queenship reflects the biblical pattern of the Kingdom of God, where greatness is measured by love, obedience, and service rather than power or status. The Church’s devotion to Mary always remains Christ-centred, for every honour given to the Mother ultimately magnifies the Son who redeemed her.

As we celebrate the Queenship of the Blessed Virgin Mary, we are invited to examine our own understanding of greatness and discipleship. Through the sacraments, especially the Eucharist, Christ forms his people into a humble and faithful kingdom of servants. Like Mary, Christians are called to welcome God’s presence, treasure his Word, and allow their lives to become places where his glory is revealed. May we seek not earthly recognition but the joy of serving God and neighbour with a heart fully surrendered to Christ.
